EVEN IN THE ERA OF
INDEPENDENCE
“INDEPENDENT” SCIENTISTS KEEP SILENT, WHEN GOUVERNMENT OFFICIALS EXPECT
THAT FROM THEM
In
confirmation of the idea about the
presence of Ukrainian common graves and absence of Jewish graves in ravines near
the Jewish cemetery in Kyiv, it was made an attempt to appeal to Igor Smilka,
the director of Institute of cartography in Kharkiv. In the field of
aerophotographs Igor Smilka is the expert of universal dimensions. Once he lived
in Cuba during several years,
where he prepared military maps of North and Middle
America for the Soviet Department of
Defence.
I.Smilka was eager to accept the
suggestion of looking through the unique historical wartime photographs of
Ukraine’s capital and went in
raptures about the image definition. He pointed
out that such quality wasn’t
within the capacity of Soviet forces even after 1945. Almost a year we waited
till colonel Smilka with patriotic
sentiment will prepare written results
of examination for publishing it in the monthly paper “Vijsko Ukrainy” (“Army of
Ukraine”). Unfortunately, he never
ventured to do it.
Then we applied
personally to Institute of cartography affiliated to the Moscow University. But it looks like somebody has
beforehand warned the directress of the institute Nadija Vereschaka, that the
aerophotographs of Babyn Yar are found. And she refused even to just look them
through. In the era of independence “independent” scientists keep silent, so far
as government officials expect that from them. The
photographs of Kyiv were solemnly handed to L.Kravchuk, the then President of
Ukraine, and D.Pavlychko during their visit to the USA. However, as
it was expected, there was no reference from them.
BABYN YAR IS THE THIRD WEIGHTY

“recalled” the first dreadful legend about that Germans made soap out of fat of
tormented Jews. On the 5th of May the same year the editions
“Jerusalem Post
International”, “New York Times” and all the well-known press of the
West.

Two months later (on the
16th of 1990) the number of Oświęcim
(Auschwitz) victims was officially diminished
from 4 000 000 to 1 100 000, and in 1993 to
800 000.
A little later on
the 1st of January 1994 “New York Times” went on and inserted an
article under the heading “The process
of appraising Jewish catastrophe should not be utterly stopped”. It is mentioned
in this article, that we can not trust the emotional and contradictory
testimonies of “eyewitnesses”, because most of them are under the influence of
so-called survivor syndrome.
IT IS INDISPENSABLE TO LEARN
THE TRUTH ABOUT BABYN YAR IN ALL UKRAINIAN SCHOOLS
We do not know how
it is in Israel or in Kyiv,
but in the Jewish schools-yeshivas in
America children from earliest years
are taught about Ukrainians’ bloodthirstiness and barbarity, their complicity in
annihilation of Jews in Babyn Yar and that Babyn Yar is the place of the greatest
grave and the greatest massacre in the history of Jewry. However,
the
hour has struck for the scientific
reappraisal. So also our Ukrainian children should already get prepared for they
know in future how to struggle for the truth against reviling of our ancestors
by our primordial, and in this century rude neighbours. We doubt that after the reconsideration of the number
of victims of communist terror the Jewish community
will want to finish building the museum of Babyn
Yar in Kyiv.
In reality Ukrainians should
finish building it – in memory of victims of Cheka and NKVD in Bilogorodka,
Bykivnia and Babyn Yar. It will remind contemporaries
and future generations of what cost did
Ukrainians reached the independence of Ukraine and how it should be
valued.
